A London based band dishing out music to make you dance! Influenced by the style and swagger of old London Town and 60’s music Penny For The Workhouse (Formally The Workhouse) were formed by singer/songwriter Mel Dayna after teaming up with fellow singer/songwriter Nathan Plant to support Soul legend Geno Washington at the world famous 100club. The duo started gigging acoustically around the London indie/folk scene before deciding to form a full band to give their songs full potential. Jess Crisp came on board as bassist and Tom Conner as drummer/vocalist and Penny For The Workhouse were born!
As well as catchy lyrics and tasty drum beats Penny For The Workhouse are full of personality and comedy always making their audience feel part of their performance. The band love to mix a wide variation of styles from song to song showing a great love of all things music!
2012 has seen a great first year for the band, gigging around London, Suffolk and Buckinghamshire. Their first EP Coins and Cards was recorded at Orpheus Studio London in June and has since been given 5 star reviews on i-tunes and by Paul Weller, the modfather himself!
